the outskirts of love

It has been a difficult month, and I have not been very lovable.

It has been a draining week, and I have not been very lovable.

What a blessing it is, then, to be surrounded by those who turn their cheek to my grouchiness and keep encouraging me to see the sunshine in this gloomy month.

Random candies taped to my door for Momma Kat, a handwritten letter in campus mail that made me tear up, a hug side hug that melts my weariness, a bowl of cereal lent with the understanding it will not be returned.

I am undeserving of their affections, and even the chance to know these people right here and now. These are the most fascinating years of change and growth for us, and my people are the coolest. They are patient with me and my gripes, and I love them very much.

God, thank You for the ones you have given me to soften the rough parts of life.
